Student Membership Initiative

Goals

students receive a discounted memberhip into the Vegetarian Nutrition Dietetic Practice GroupIncrease student membership. A poster presentation at the 2007 FNCE showed that VN DPG has one of the highest rates of student membership of all DPGs. We know the value of having student members and they know the value of our DPG. We recently secured a special discounted membership rate for our students ($10/year) and are aiming to have the largest student membership of all DPGs...

Increase student involvement. Interest in vegetarianism and plant-based diets is on the rise and VN DPG is leading the way in educating dietitians and other health professionals. Student involvement with VN is crucial for our continued success. Students can connect with other student members, contribute to the newsletter, share research, apply for research grants and stipends for conferences and communicate with mentor RDs in the field.

Address student member interests and concerns. Unfortunately, many myths exist regarding vegetarianism and our DPG exists as a resource for students doing research, working internships and transitioning into the nutrition field. We are dietitians who have have been there and have worked hard to acquire the knowledge we have on vegetarianism and we are excited to share it with you. Our DPG is in an exciting time of growth and your energy and input is needed for us to reach our goals.
